Small, sharp Office add-ins

Guides

One per add-in. Each runs the whole thing on a worked example, with a picture of the pane at every stage, so you can see what it does before you install anything.

Every guide is free to read and needs no account. Where a step is on the paid tier it says so beside the heading; everything else works on the free one.

Find hardcoded values in an Excel workbook

The numbers somebody typed over a formula, and the constants buried inside one. Both are invisible to Excel’s own inconsistent-formula warning. Fix them one at a time, and undo the fix.

Make an Excel worksheet Copilot-ready

Merged cells, banner rows, a header that contradicts its column. Scan a sheet for the things that change what Copilot reads, fix them one at a time, and restore the sheet if you want it back.

Reconcile two Excel tables on a key

Match two tables on a key rather than on row order, and get back what does not agree and why — on four sheets, with an audit sheet recording every option that was on.

Compare an Excel workbook against an earlier version

What changed since the last save. Written for the case that matters: the formula somebody quietly replaced with a typed number.

Clean a Xero export, and check a sheet before uploading it

A Xero export arrives with text dates and text amounts that look like numbers and do not add up. Fix both, then check a sheet against Xero’s own rules before you upload it.

Flatten a formatted Excel report into a table

Section headers, subtotals, spacer rows — a report laid out to be read rather than pivoted. Turn it into a table on a new sheet, with the original untouched.

Check the units in an Excel calculation

Excel has no concept of a unit, so a length added to an area raises nothing. Find where a formula adds kN to N, or a moment to a force, using the units already written on the sheet.
