Multi-currency payout export: how to check it without converting

By Paul Kemp · Published

One export can hold sales in several currencies, or customers who paid in one currency and were settled in another. Adding the column up across them gives a number that means nothing.

What goes wrong

What the add-on does

PO-05 flags a file with more than one currency, and, as an advisory, lines where the customer paid in a different currency from the one settled. It groups by the settlement currency, never by the presentment currency, and a currency is part of every group key, so two currencies are never merged or summed together.

What it deliberately does not do

It never converts. It has no exchange rates and no rule for choosing one, because a rate you guess is a figure you cannot defend. It tells you the file is mixed and checks each currency on its own. The conversion your accounts need is a decision for you or your accountant.

Practical steps

  1. Scan the sheet and read the PO-05 finding.
  2. Filter or copy each settlement currency to its own range if you need separate totals.
  3. Run the split on each, if the report is a Stripe™ itemized one.

Check the file before you trust it

Payout Export Cleaner scans a Shopify™ or Stripe™ payout export in Google Sheets™, or a sheet you are about to import into Xero™ or QuickBooks™, and explains every finding. The full scan, every explanation and Undo are free, and your data stays in your Google™ account. It edits the spreadsheet only and never connects to Shopify, Stripe, Xero or QuickBooks.
