Bank CSV with extra rows, repeats and duplicates: clean before upload
A bank import fails or double-counts when the file holds more than transactions: an opening-balance row, a total under the data, a header repeated halfway down, or the same transactions twice because two exports overlap.
What the scan looks for
- Non-transaction rows (
BK-02): rows below the data, an opening-balance row, a row with no date and no amount. - A repeated header (
BK-03) inside the data. - Empty or unlabelled columns (
BK-04). - Duplicate rows (
BK-15) from overlapping exports. A balance column strengthens the match. - A running balance that does not follow the amounts (
BK-16): a sign of a missing or doubled row. It tries oldest-first and newest-first, and stays quiet unless the balance mostly follows the amounts across four or more rows. - A row count at a known cap (
BK-14): the export may have stopped short. - Rows in another currency (
BK-13), reported and never converted.
Check by hand
Sort by date, scroll to both ends, and look for a total or a note. Use Data › Data cleanup › Remove duplicates with care, because two real payments of the same amount to the same payee on the same day look identical. Check the earliest and latest date of each export against the last one you imported.
What the add-on does
These are findings that explain, not rewrite: only you can say whether a repeated row is a real second payment, so duplicates and balance breaks are warnings.
