Etsy™ fees in a spreadsheet: transaction, processing, offsite ads and VAT on fees

Etsy™ does not take one commission. It takes several fees, each appearing as its own row in your monthly statement, plus tax rows on top. Sellers who total only the obvious fees undercount what selling really costs. Here is the full set.

The fee rows

Found in the statement's Type column (download it from Shop Manager → Finances → Payment account):

• Transaction fee. Etsy's percentage on each sale, on its own row per order.
• Processing fee. The payment-processing cut, also per order.
• Listing fee. Charged when you list or renew, whether the item sells or not.
• Offsite ads fee. Only if you run offsite ads: a percentage on sales Etsy attributes to its advertising.
• Regulatory fee. Etsy's operating-cost recovery row, where it applies.
• VAT / VAT on fees. Tax rows. They record tax Etsy handles or charges on its fees; they are not income and not all of them are costs either, so keep them visible and separate.
• Etsy Plus. The subscription, if you pay for it.

Postage or shipping label rows are separate costs again, if you buy labels through Etsy.

Total them by hand

SUMIFS the Net column by Type to see each fee's yearly total, then add the fee totals together for the true cost of selling. Compare that against gross sales before deciding anything about pricing: fee orders of magnitude surprise most sellers the first time.
